Child Support

From July 2008 a new formula came into place to calculate a parent's child support contributions.

Many variables can affect a child support calculation and you can contact the Child Support Agency directly to obtain specific advice regarding your entitlement or obligation to pay child support. www.csa.gov.au. Sometimes you may need your own legal advice about your child support situation.

Private child support agreements can also be reached between the parties either as a "binding agreement" or a "limited agreement". These agreements can outline lump sum payments, payments less than the formulae amount or payments other than cash payments. At The Family Law Centre we can assist you in ensuring that such private agreements are prepared correctly and registered with the child support agency.

Sometimes you may disagree with the child support assessment and we can assist you to understand if and how you can vary or object to the assessment.
